A century of tradition for the Fairmont Le Manoir Richelieu Golf Club
La Malbaie, Quebec, Tuesday, February 25, 2025 — In July 2025, The Golf Club of Fairmont Le Manoir Richelieu, on the website of Charlevoix Hotel Casino entertainment complex, will mark a significant milestone by celebrating its 100th anniversary. Since its inauguration in 1925, this iconic course has charmed golfers and visitors alike with its exceptional natural setting and rich heritage. From exclusive tournaments to commemorative items and special packages, this year is dedicated to 100 years of unforgettable moments on the greens.
A century of history and excellence
Ranked among the most picturesque courses in Quebec and holding the reputation of one of the largest golf courses in Canada, The Fairmont Le Manoir Richelieu Golf Club has hosted many prestigious tournaments and has attracted both professional and amateur golfers. The original course was designed by British architect and landscaper Herbert Strong and opened on July 18, 1925, in the presence of the Honorable William H. Taft, former President of the United States and summer resident of Pointe-au-Pic, who liked to describe the air of Charlevoix as ” invigorating and as uplifting as champagne without the morning after effects ».
Over the decades, major transformations have been made to modernize and improve the player experience. Between 2002 and 2004, the hotel completed the addition of a 9-hole golf course, a panoramic trail connecting the Manor to the golf course and a new golfers’ chalet. The Fairmont Le Manoir Richelieu Golf Club now has 27 high-caliber holes, a project carried out by architect Darrell Huxham, which highlights the natural assets of the site, such as its rugged terrain, its woods and its breathtaking view of the river. All this is done while preserving the essence of Strong’s original layout. Players then discover a course totaling between 6066 and 6326 yards, depending on the sequence, overlooking the Saint-Laurent and landscapes worthy of the most beautiful postcards. A legendary journey at the heart of the celebrations
To mark this centenary in style, several exclusive offers and new products will be available. The Ultimate Golf Package in Charlevoix – 100th Anniversary Special will allow visitors to fully enjoy this unique experience. As of May 2025, a brand new terrace will be inaugurated at the golfers’ chalet offering an exceptional panorama of Charlevoix. An exhibition on the history of the Fairmont Le Manoir Richelieu Golf Club, carried out in collaboration with the Charlevoix Museum, will be presented until October in the hotel lobby, offering visitors a fascinating immersion in the evolution of the course. On July 19, the 100th Anniversary Tournament to which participants will be invited dressed in period golf attire, will add a memorable touch to this historic year and recall the rich heritage of the Fairmont Le Manoir Richelieu Golf Club and its impact in the region.
